biography - Sybille Witkowski

Biography

There's no holding her back. One phone call in the morning and soprano Sybille Witkowski is standing on the stage that same evening. As for example in the main female role in the world premiere of Johannes Harneit’s “Abends am Fluss” (Evening by the River). To do this requires more than just courage and experience.

For this you need a true foundation upon which singing and acting wholly come to life, where the new can evolve from the old; something incalculable, which sweeps you along yet can be controlled; where knowledge and experience come together and where being precedes appearance. While many things in life are schematic – 'that's simply how you do it', life can suddenly surprise us, everything is fresh and different. Life streams forth, flowing and changing, reaching further, higher, deeper; it is dramatic yet also velvet-soft, narrated with a fluent timbre, with vigour and musicality.

In forming and developing her voice Sybille Witkowski worked with Rosemarie Hagemann and Siegfried Jerusalem - from mezzo soprano to the lyric soprano through the youthful-dramatic and coloratura soprano to the dramatic soprano – an unconventional path on which radiant height and precise agility have merged with dramatic power. It was a journey of maturation and, at the same time, of rejuvenation. But Sybille Witkowski has, nonetheless, remained who she is  - the archetypal diva of classical operetta, as she is considered by the experts.

While still a member of the International Opera Studio of Nuremberg State Theatre, the soprano singer made her debut as the title figure in “Die Csárdásfürstin” (The Gypsy Princess). She belonged to the ensemble of soloists during the seasons that followed and sang, among other roles, the Countess in “Le Nozze de Figaro” (The Marriage of Figaro), Rosalinde in “Die Fledermaus” (The Bat), the first lady in “Die Zauberflöte” (The Magic Flute) and Lisa in “Das Land des Lächelns” (The Land of Smiles).

At the Stadttheater Heidelberg Sybille Witkowski, likewise, took on a main role at a moment’s notice, that of Frida in the world premiere of “Las cartas de Frida” by Marcela Rodriguez.

In between times she has given guest performances, concerts and stepped in for other singers. Since life is filled not only with drama, but also humour and verve, Sybille Witkowski’s current repertoire includes roles such as Ariadne and Countess Mariza as well as the Marschallin, Leonore, Senta, the Empress, Isolde, Brünnhilde and Turandot.

Biografie

That´s li(f)ve.

Biografia – That's li(f)ve
